Named after the one of the previous farm owners (whose same name was given to the local bridge – over time adjusted to ‘straight bridge’), Speight Cottage is a one bed, beautifully converted old smithy/workers cottage, with views down onto the River Rawthey and situated in a quiet corner of the Rawthey Valley, approx 1 mile outside the village of Sedbergh.

The sympathetic conversion combines the original exposed timbers and stonework of the building along with the modern conveniences of underfloor heating and a stylish kitchen and bathroom, to give a exquisite combination of both old and new.

The accommodation consists of a combined kitchen/living-area – complete with wood burning stove in the original fireplace – a shower room, and a separate bedroom containing a King-size bed. Outside a patio seating area extends the length of the living space with further views up and down the valley which can be enjoyed from the comfort of the provided garden furniture or the luxury of the Hot tub.

In an adjacent barn, a short walk across the courtyard, there is a shared drying room furnished with washing machine, tumble dryer, heater airer and boot/dog shower.  Up to 2 well behaved dogs are allowed (Contact us if you require more).

Speight Cottage is conveniently centrally located for access to both the Yorkshire dales and the Lake district (Kendal is a 12 miles, Hawes 16 miles), and also benefits from numerous popular walks (of varying difficultly) nearby that allow you the opportunity to explore the beautiful local countryside, discover local wildlife, and obtain stunning views from the surrounding hill ranges.

Closer to home, the cottage is also nestled between two fields that belong to the owners of the property which is home to their livestock (donkeys and Highland cattle) but can also be freely used by any guests that stay. At the bottom of these fields, the owners of the property also hold the fishing rights to the adjoining section of Rawthey river which guests can request access to if they fancy pursuing their hobby, or would simply like to try out something new!
