As with all good small holdings we had to have chickens … and as we never do things by the book we had to have ‘giant’ chickens …
Due to bird flu movement restrictions we had to grow our chickens from eggs (another steep learning curve – including using lolly sticks to hold twisted legs together whilst they healed).
We have added a few normal size hens – and did eat a couple of the cockerels just before Christmas (very tasty) .. when hatching you end up with basically 50-50 split 🙁
We now have 3 chicken coops, each housing around 20 hens each, overseen by a handsome cockerel. This can lead to a good amount of eggs when they feel like it.
When government restrictions are not in place, our hens can free range throughout the farm.
